Drying Handmade Crochet Flat Without Stretching the Shape

Wet crochet can be heavy. If that weight hangs from one edge, the item may lengthen, narrow or distort before it dries.

Remove water without wringing

Use the method allowed by the care label. For hand-washed pieces, support the item while lifting it, press water out gently and roll it in a clean towel if appropriate. Twisting can stress both fibres and seams.

Support the entire shape

Lay the piece on a clean, dry, colourfast surface with airflow. Arrange it to the intended measurements without dragging individual corners. Place sleeves, straps or long sections in their natural position rather than letting them hang over an edge.

Allow complete drying

Turn the item only if its structure and blocking needs allow, replacing damp towels when necessary. Keep it away from direct heat or strong sunlight unless the manufacturer says otherwise. Store it only when the thickest areas and seams are fully dry.

Keep this in mind

Move wet crochet with full support, shape it flat and wait until dense areas are completely dry before lifting or storing.
