Treble Crochet Without Loose, Wobbly Stitches
Share
Treble crochet is tall and open. That height brings drape, but it also magnifies loose yarn overs and uneven loop height.
Keep the wraps aligned
In U.S. terminology, begin with two yarn overs. Hold them lightly against the shaft while inserting the hook so they do not cross or fall off.
Work through two loops at a time
Pull up a loop, then yarn over and pull through two loops three times. Keep each pull-through similar in size. Rushing the final step often leaves one tall, loose loop at the top.
Support the base
Pinch the stitch near its base with the yarn hand while learning. That keeps the insertion point stable and prevents the whole post from twisting around the hook.
Swatch the hook choice
If the fabric looks wobbly, first check loop consistency and gauge. A smaller hook may create more control, but it also changes the measurement and drape. Adjust through a swatch rather than squeezing the yarn.
Keep this in mind
Organize the two starting yarn overs, support the stitch base and make three even pull-throughs.
