Waffle Stitch Crochet: Structure, Yarn Use and Edges
Share
Crochet waffle stitch combines raised post lines with recessed stitch groups. Its depth makes warm fabric, but it also affects gauge and yardage.
Protect the setup count
Work the required multiple and foundation row carefully. The vertical ribs depend on front post stitches landing around the correct posts. Mark repeat boundaries until the grid is easy to read.
Keep post stitches relaxed
Insert around the full post from the direction specified and draw the first loop up to normal row height. Tight post stitches shorten the fabric and make later rows harder to enter.
Plan edges and quantity
Mark the first and last stitch because the textured surface can hide them. Make and wash a generous swatch before estimating a blanket or garment; the deep structure uses more yarn and may take longer to dry than a flatter stitch. Add a border only after checking whether the edge already lies flat.
Keep this in mind
Keep the setup multiple intact, lift post-stitch loops fully and estimate yarn from a representative washed swatch.
