How to Fix Uneven Crochet Edges

An edge can be uneven even when the centre of the fabric looks beautiful. Treat each row ending as a small repeatable technique.

Set the markers

Place a marker in the first true stitch and move it up every row. Mark the final stitch as well if it tends to hide. These two points create a clear boundary.

Use one turning method

Confirm whether the chain counts, how many chains are used and where the first stitch belongs. Do not alternate between rules because one edge looked tighter on a single row.

Turn consistently

Turning in the same direction can make yarn management and edge placement feel more predictable. It is not a universal requirement, but consistency helps while diagnosing an edge.

Finish after structure is correct

A border can refine small visual variations, but it should not be used to hide a changing stitch count. First make the sides structurally straight; then add an evenly spaced border if the design calls for one.

Keep this in mind

Stabilize the first and last stitch, follow one turning rule and correct the count before adding a border.
