How to Fix Uneven Tension Between Colour Sections
Share
Changing colour interrupts the normal hand rhythm. Tight tails, loose carried strands and different yarn thicknesses can make one section look unlike the next.
Compare the yarns themselves
Confirm that both colours are the same yarn line or make swatches if they differ. Equal weight-category labels do not guarantee equal diameter, twist or elasticity.
Use one change sequence
Complete the final pull-through of the old-colour stitch with the new colour. Hold the old strand securely but do not yank it. Work several stitches, spread them to normal width and then adjust any loose transition loop.
Check carried sections frequently
If carrying yarn, leave enough length for the fabric to lie flat. Measure motif widths as you work and view the piece from both sides. When one colour consistently crochets tighter, practice lifting its loops to the same height instead of compensating with random extra stitches.
Keep this in mind
Use the same colour-change motion every time and adjust strands only after the new stitches are spread to their natural width.
