Scrap Yarn Projects With an Intentional Colour Plan
Share
Scrap projects look cohesive when variation follows a rule. First make the leftovers compatible, then decide how colours enter the design.
Sort for practical compatibility
Group scraps by approximate yarn weight, fibre behaviour and care requirements. A washable blanket should not contain one section that needs completely different treatment. Record remaining length or weight when possible.
Assign colour roles
Choose a dominant family, one or two supporting groups and a contrast accent. A repeated neutral between colours can unify unrelated scraps. Alternatively, order them by value from light to dark or follow a fixed rotation.
Pick a modular structure
Stripes, motifs and small joined blocks make quantity changes easier to manage. Create a sample sequence and photograph it in grayscale to check value balance. Weave ends at planned intervals so the finishing workload does not become the last surprise.
Keep this in mind
Combine only compatible yarns, give each colour a role and use a repeat that can absorb small changes in quantity.
