Why Are My Granny Square Corners Twisting?
Share
A slight spiral can be part of a one-direction construction, but pronounced twisting often means the corners or joins are no longer aligned.
Check every corner space
Count the groups and chains in all four corners. A missed group, extra chain or stitch placed in the wrong gap changes one side's length and pulls the square out of balance.
Review round direction and joins
Some patterns turn after each round to counteract directional lean; others deliberately continue in one direction. Follow the stated method consistently. Make sure the join enters the correct stitch or space and does not travel by one stitch each round.
Block only after counts match
Gently shape a correct, washed square to equal side measurements. Blocking can settle moderate stitch lean and soften corners, but it should not be used to hide a count error. Mark the beginning and each corner on the next square for easier comparison.
Keep this in mind
Verify four equal corners and a stable join before relying on blocking to settle ordinary directional lean.
