Yarn Bowls, Project Bags and Yarn Dispensers Compared
Share
These accessories are often grouped together, but they solve different problems. Start with the problem that actually interrupts your crochet.
A yarn bowl controls a rolling ball
A weighted bowl keeps a ball near the chair while a curved guide feeds the strand. It suits home use on a stable surface. Check that the guide is smooth and wide enough for the yarn.
A project bag keeps the whole job together
A bag holds the work, pattern, hooks and spare yarn. Interior pockets separate sharp or small tools, while a flat base keeps yarn from being crushed. A closure protects the contents during travel.
A dispenser focuses on controlled feed
A spindle or enclosed container can support a cake, cone or ball while it unwinds. Confirm that the yarn can be removed without cutting if the strand passes through a fixed eyelet.
One project may use a bag for storage and a bowl while working. Avoid buying three tools for the same job; choose the smallest system that prevents the problem you experience.
Keep this in mind
Use a bowl for rolling yarn, a bag for the full project and a dispenser when controlled unwinding is the main need.
