How to Build a Useful Crochet Supply Inventory

The most useful inventory records what you own in the same terms you use when choosing a project.

Inventory yarn

Record yarn name, fiber, weight category, colour, dye lot, length per full ball and quantity on hand. Photograph the label and note where the yarn is stored.

Inventory hooks

List millimetre size, material, head style and handle type. Use millimetres as the primary comparison because letter and number labels can vary.

Track small tools by category

Count only items where quantity matters: locking markers, yarn needles, blocking pins, cables and replacement parts. For ordinary scissors or measuring tapes, location may be more useful than a number.

Keep it light

A simple spreadsheet, note app or paper binder is enough. Update it when supplies enter or leave, and review it before purchasing for a new project.

Add a wish list separately

Do not mix owned items with planned purchases. Record the project need beside each wish so the list remains purposeful.

Keep this in mind

Track yarn by usable details, hooks by millimetres and future purchases in a separate need-based list.
