How to Make Matching Tassels for Crochet Projects

Tassels match when their construction is measured rather than judged by eye. Record the wrap count and tie positions for the first one.

Use one firm template

Wrap yarn around a card cut to the planned tassel length. Keep the wraps parallel and relaxed, then count them. Slip a strong hanging tie under the top and secure it before removing the bundle.

Place the neck consistently

Wrap a separate strand around the bundle at a measured distance from the top. Tie securely and hide the ends within the skirt where appropriate. Repeat with the same number of neck wraps.

Trim the pair together

Cut the lower loops, let both tassels hang and smooth the strands. Place them side by side against a straight guide and remove only small amounts. If the item will be washed, check whether detachable tassels would be easier to care for.

Keep this in mind

Record template length, wrap count and neck position, then compare both tassels before the final trim.
