How to Store Finished Crochet Pieces
Share
Long-term storage is part of care. The goal is to prevent stretching, trapped moisture and unnecessary abrasion.
Clean before storing
Follow the yarn’s care instructions and let the piece dry fully. Storing even slightly damp fabric can create odour and damage.
Fold with support
Fold heavy garments and blankets rather than hanging them, which can stretch shoulders and edges. Place acid-free tissue between delicate folds if appropriate, and refold occasionally so creases do not remain in the same place.
Choose a stable container
Use a clean, dry box or breathable storage solution suited to the fiber and environment. Avoid compressing raised textures or packing closures against delicate stitches.
Keep the record nearby
Store a care card, yarn information and repair yarn with the piece. Inspect periodically for moisture, pests, pulled stitches or colour change, and address problems before returning it to storage.
Keep this in mind
Store clean, fully dry pieces folded and supported, with their care information and repair yarn.
