Why Is My Magic Ring Coming Loose?
Share
The adjustable loop is convenient, but the centre remains dependent on its tail until that tail is secured. A single tug is not a permanent finish.
Identify the moving strand
After completing the first round, gently pull the tail that closes the centre. If the construction uses a doubled loop, tighten the parts in the sequence taught by that method rather than forcing both at once.
Leave a generous tail
Do not cut close to the ring. Thread the tail onto a blunt needle and weave it through the backs of several nearby stitches, change direction and pass through another secure path. Avoid pulling so tightly that the centre puckers.
Match security to use
Items that will be washed, stretched or handled need particularly careful finishing. Inspect the centre after the first wash. If the yarn is very slick or the project is safety-critical, consider a chained ring or another construction recommended by the pattern instead of relying on an adjustable loop.
Keep this in mind
Close the ring without distortion and weave a long tail in multiple directions; the tail, not the initial pull, secures the centre.
